ARTIST SHOBITHA HARIHARAN

Shobitha Hariharan’s passion for painting led her to quit a successful career in the Corporate world and plunge into the world of art. She had been dabbling in arts and crafts since childhood and this decision to follow her heart has been an interesting journey so far.

Paper textures and the effects of different mediums on them fascinate her. She enjoys working with Charcoal powder, soft pastels and Watercolours. She feels that there is a certain charm in applying colour and blending them with the fingers.

Her interest in the works of European Masters of Art led her to see them first hand in various art museums in the UK & USA. She read about the lives of these Masters and was inspired to write a series on them in Colour Canvas, a leading art fortnightly newspaper.

She likes to travel and has a fascination to capture sights that she encounters in these travels to translate them as expressions of art. Her photographic skills have proved valuable in feeding her with insights and ideas for her art works. Her photography entry to the Kala Ghoda Art Festival 2017 was shortlisted for display at Jehangir Art Gallery in February 2017.

Shobitha’s innate talents blossomed through attending workshops conducted by senior artists to watch, understand and learn the subtleties of different mediums. She showcased her art works at the India Art Festival at Mumbai in February 2018 and received an overwhelming response including media coverage.

As a writer, Shobitha writes columns, short stories, book reviews and poetry.

Shobitha Hariharan will be exhibiting her work at Kalaa Spandan Art Fair at Nehru Centre Mumbai [K3] from November 23rd to 26th 2018.
