About the painting - The Essence of Varanasi [2022]

This Still-Life painting is a 22’ X 33’ Acrylic painting where I have tried to capture the uniqueness of the ancient city of Varanasi

Moot point: Capturing the essence of the ancient city of Varanasi with its cultural and religious history

Banares located along the Ganges river in India is full of colour, Hindu temples and local arts and culture

In this painting titled ‘The Essence of Varanasi’:-

  • Varanasi, Kasi and Banares are the names this old holy city is know by

  • The misty orange background brings alive the visual sunrises and temple Aartis along the Ganges

  • It is known for its intricate Banarasi and Jamadani weaves. The Jamdani fabric with its typical design element serves as the table cloth

  • The Books titles speak of rich Hindu religious heritage and legacy India has got from Kasi

  • Two wooden boats act as showpieces that brings the concept together.

  • Jasmine flowers are used extensively for poojas in the temples

  • The sparrows symbolise and  represent all Indians who are believers of Hinduism and come to Varanasi to offer prayers.
