About the painting - Kab Talak chupegi…

a 12’ circular acrylic on canvas painting

2025

Theme: Capturing the essence of the peppy old Hindi film song on canvas

This is a realistic representation of a table top arrangement in simple homes - home decor that reflects the tastes of inmates of the home

The book titles say it all. A little praise goes a long way to creating a lasting relationship! And that too set to O P Nayyar’s music is timeless.

I have chosen a table lamp with a round dome to mimic the shape of the canvas. It throws light just where it is required highlighting the story.

The sparrows are people like you and me, the ones who would likely switch off the light on a cool rainy night and listen to old film songs and feel calm and content.

The doll is dressed like actress Amita in the movie Tumsa nahi deka [1957]. For some reason all of us seem to remember Shammi Kapoor’s playful actions while singing the song. In this painting we can hear Shammi Kapoor / Mohd Rafi and see the actress trying to hide from the light under the lamp!

The heart headed woman peg doll is Penn- Naari - the quintessential Indian woman. Penn-Naari - 'Penn"means 'Girl' in Tamil and 'Naari' means 'Lady' in Hindi.
